Final Reflection
3.10.08

References and Resources –
I have used many wed sites that continue to update lists of Web 2.0 tools. E.g – TKI, Fiona Grants Del.icio.us and Web 2.0 tools fro uLearn.

I have also keep up with other people’s blogs and wiki’s e.g. Helen Rennie-Younger’s to keep getting ideas.

Feedback –
At the start of the year I was losing lots of pages from my wiki and this made me very frustrated. That problem seems to be fixed now.
I have been setting aside and hour each week to update and ensure that information on my wiki is as up-to-date as possible.

The children picked up how to use the wiki quickly – I showed them by going to any websites we were using in class through it, so it was really repetitive – how to open it, where to find things etc. The real obstacle was getting the students through and allowing them to explore the wiki as we only have two computers and one of them is very slow with a mouse that doesn’t quite work properly.

I really enjoyed their faces when they could see their work up on the wiki and then they would tell their parents how to get on and show them and this feedback came back from the parents.

Over the holidays I think I will further explore what my purpose is for my wiki and decide on what is the best tool for sharing students learning with the larger community as we are getting a learning management tool and this will need to be explored in light of this.

Ulearn
A great success - we received some good feedback on our presentation. Really enjoyed a couple of our key notes speakers.

September holidays
Aim of the holidays is to make sure that everything is ready for Helen and my Ulearn presentation. Upload and cut video clips etc, sort out presenter notes. Ensure slides are in correct order and reduce as much as possible ensuring that it makes sense.

Week 5
Working on continuing to imporve my wiki space. Keeping up to date with the new things that go onto others wikis. Added the page of 'fun games' non educational games which my students tell me about and like to play after school hours. Added the new page school wide events - putting in daffodil day, cross country and the mini olympics. Everything good with wikis at moment. Need to look more at the purpose of our blogs and see if these are still relevent. Looking at students creating a vblog on the weekly one in a roster of students to go on. Decide what to do with writing blog. Add delicious account to this wiki - or change the one on the kids wiki to make it a kids friendly one - sick of having so many favourites!

Week 4
Worked with Helen R-Y and Fiona on Ulearn presentation. Showing whos putting in which bits to the slide and deciding where the examples from the wikispace will fit in.

Sunnybrae ICT Lead Teacher day 25th July 08

Present: Jo, Miriam, Felicity, Deborah (am)
Talked about elearning and pedagogy pg. 36 of the new curriculum. In there it also has a definition of what elearning is and how it involves ICT.
Statement in pg. 36 – bottom summarises the main idea about elearning “Students should…”
Impact on vision pg. 8
Values pg. 10
Principles pg. 9

Need to look at new and interesting ways of involving students in their learning.
Not just being entertained.
It is the teachers job to facilitate what they know and how this can be used to enhance learning.

Tuesday 1st July 2008
Miriam told me about a new blog site she found which the students can get onto using their logon called edublog. Been on and created a new class blog in case I decide to change things to that one.

Monday 30th June 2008
Today was my second session with Lynn for the year. I asked her about using VoiceThreads with the students and we talked about how it takes ages for the children’s voices to load. She suggested recording the children’s voices while plugged into the network using the network cable. We tried this and found that the programme still cut us off at a certain point. The children and I became frustrated so are going to explore other avenues for this and I will email Fiona to see if there is anything I an doing wrong.

During my time with Lynn we looked at how my wiki was working. We found that my wiki is losing pages and there are a few bugs – e.g. it thinks there is someone else logging in. Can’t figure out why or how to change this. May have to shut down this class wiki and start a new one. Will persist for a little longer.

Class blog going well – need to ensure that I update regularly – doesn’t always have to be pictures etc.

Wednesday 2nd July 2008
This just has some brief notes about what is going on with my ICT teacher inquiry - where I am at and ho things are progressing.

My Over arching question is...

How can wikispaces and blogs enhance eLearning and be included in my classroom programme and replace powerpoint learning centers?

My Focus...

Wiki spaces – how to set it up
The different features of a wiki space
How to maintain a wiki – lock pages and ensure things don’t move and the children/parents cannot edit the page.
How can I integrate a wiki space into my classroom planning – what are its benefits? Can it replace learning centers made on powerpoint?
How else can I enhance my wiki and blogs and make them more purposeful and user friendly?
